i am here to make sure all great artists on DA stay safe about their art. i made this account to help and inform all artists of the deviantart terms of service, which i'm sure most if not all of you have over looked...
i encourage everyone of you who care about your art or your artist identity to STOP USING DA.

it's a shame it had to happen to someone else before we could realize just how awful deviantart really is.
please, stay safe, and put watermarks, signatures, or anything you need to do to secure your art and your artist name.

That incident was shown to be completely unrelated to deviantart and was between the artist and Hot Topic. . . . Their terms of service basically means you can't sue them for having your art or stuff related to you on any promotional things.
But you don't see cases of this happening. If it did, you'd hear a lot more about it than just one post. Most terms of service are like this to protect the organization, and if you're looking for something that sounds malicious, I'm sure you'll find it. I'm not a huge fan of dA management, but I know they are not selling works left and right without artists knowing about it. They're just protecting themselves from being sued and this covers a wide range of basically anything you could sue them on.
Though all artists, especially those commercially, should be smart about posting their work online and adding signatures, maybe watermarks, metadata, and not releasing full sized, high quality images.
